Tom Lambert, our technical and project manager, along with five crew members, was on hand to help quickly transform the Thames-side site over three days, from the prestigious Henley Regatta infrastructure into an exclusive festival site fit to host high-end glittering performances and art exhibitions.
A luxurious purple festoon drape was used for the backdrop of the main Floating Stage, with black wool-serge drapes installed to black out the sides of the structures, enhancing the aesthetics of the stage. After installing the main stage rigging for the first time last year, we once again installed an upgraded rig into the stages’ roof arches from which lighting was hung. A total of 30 motors were installed for the lighting rig with a further 6 for the PA. Weight distribution is key on this stage as it has limited loadings available on the arches. Black, hinged Prolyte H40V trusses were used this year and made the stage feel more open than previous years.
In the exclusive Terrace Restaurant, our expertise helped to ensure the venue was visually on-point through the provision of grey linen drapes designed to remain in-keeping with the festivals black-tie dress code. We also rigged the venue’s ivy dressed chandeliers and also installed a starcloth behind the restaurants’ live music stage to enhance the ambience.
Additional installations included two truss structures, onto which a Henley Festival welcome sign and event schedule constructed out of sequins was installed. A ground support structure was installed at the Pizza Express Live @ The Top, with starcloth wings and black drapes around the stage. Two further trusses were flown between the big tops support masts from which lighting, sound and AV were hung.
Tom explains: “We’re really proud to be continually expanding our offerings to this festival, which boasts such an amazing location and some impressive headline performances. We worked closely with the production team to supply all the rigging equipment and a variety of drapery to help ensure the festival was a great success. The schedule to turn around the venue from the Regatta to the festival just a few days later can be challenging, but it is testament to the hard work of our team that our installations are completed to the highest of standards.”
This year the Henley music festival saw headlines performances from Sir Elton John, Elvis Costello, Bryn Terfel and the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Dame Shirley Bassey and Will Young.
