AEG Presents asked us to supply rigging services, hoists and drapes for the first-ever Demon Dayz Festival featuring Gorillaz at Dreamland in Margate on June 10th.
The event, which sold out within minutes, saw 15,000 ticket holders pack out the newly refurbished and re-opened Dreamland Amusement Park to watch the multi-platinum and Grammy Award-winning band, fronted by Damon Albarn, put on a live show which featured cameos from Kano, Little Simz and Shaun Ryder.
Blackout director Kevin Monks headed up a crew of four which installed all the equipment involved.
Kevin himself went down a week ahead of the show to pre-rig the top rig while the stage roof was still on the floor, minimising risk. Our four-strong crew then returned to install the hoists for the main production load-in.
The main PA speakers were hung from truss goalposts on either side of the stage using four two-tonne points. Two giant portrait video screens were hung in the centre of the goalposts, each from three one-tonne points.
As well as hoists and rigging, Blackout also provided drapes to provide sound baffling around the stage from the generators.
In addition to the thousands of fans watching live, the festival, headline sponsors Red Bull streamed the event – the first at the park since its £25m redevelopment - to a wider audience via Red Bull TV.
