The 'Brain's' Behind The Brits

Blackout supplied extensive draping to transform London’s O2 Arena and temporary after show party venue for The BRIT Awards 2016 in association with MasterCard, 24th February.

The 2016 ceremony marked the 36th edition of The BRIT Awards, one of the music industry’s most prestigious events, and witnessed performances from Adele, Coldplay, James Bay and Jess Glynne. In order to create a spectacular visual experience for the celebrity guests, as well as for the millions of viewers watching at home, Blackout installed a variety of its drapes, whilst meeting the needs of the production team.

For the main show, Blackout provided a 70m x 24m backdrop in black drape with two tracked entrances, drape borders for the video trusses, a 30m x 8m front border, drapes for the front of house control and dressing to all the camera platforms, to ensure the whole focus of the evening was on the onstage action.

Blackout also supplied pipe and drape for the red carpet walk in, which welcomed celebrity guests including Rihanna, Florence Welch and Jack Garratt. Black voile drape was also supplied to the VIP bar.

For the prestigious BRIT awards after party, Blackout supplied pipe and drape to mask the catering area and 50m x 6m of gold slash drape, adding an extra element of glamour to the evening.

Chris Brain, Blackout project manager commented: “We’re proud to get the opportunity to work on The Brits, as it’s always such a spectacular show to be part of. We worked closely with designers and the production team to help ensure the main stage and the after party venue were dressed seamlessly to reflect the glamour of this event. As The BRITS is broadcast live, creating a truly visual experience is paramount to the enjoyment of the celebrity guests, as well as the viewers watching at home and the end result, as always, looked fantastic.”
