We are the London centre for NELC Assessment
Blackout is proud to be the London Assessment Centre for The PLASA National Event Lifting Certificate (NELC), an exciting new qualification for workers carrying out ground based rigging operations.
What is NELC?
The NELC was developed in response to demand from the event industry for a competence indicator for people carrying out lifting operations, but not actually working at height. The scheme enables individuals to demonstrate their practical skills, knowledge and expertise to a professional standard and attain recognition of those skills. Each individual who achieves the qualification receives a Certificate and skills ID card.
Since the launch of the PLASA National Rigging Certificate (NRC) in 2008, an industry standard has existed for riggers to be able to demonstrate their competence. However, for those people carrying out rigging as part of their duties who do not climb, no qualification has previously been available. With the support of The National Rigging Advisory Group (NRAG) and industry sponsors, PLASA, the National Event Lifting Certificate has been created.
We are proud to be a contributor to, and supporter of, the NELC accreditation scheme. Widely recognised within the events industry, many organisations across our sector have added their endorsement to the scheme.
Who will benefit?
NELC is aimed at those who are often called upon to carry out various rigging tasks; this may be anyone working within lighting, sound, video or scenery industries. It will also benefit individuals who are looking to be assessed for their skills within rigging, but who don’t necessarily undertake working at height, or those on a rigging trainee programme who have no intention of working at height.
Which topics will NELC assess?
- The ability to maintain Effective Relationships at Work
- The individual’s contribution to Health and Safety in the Workplace
- The ability to ensure individual’s actions reduce risk to Health and Safety
- Capability in rigging installation
- Knowledge of rigging operations
London Assessment Dates
Our NELC assessment dates will run from October to December 2016. Other dates may be available for groups looking to be assessed at the same time. Contact us directly for further information.
Other NELC Centres are based at Unusual in Bugbrooke, Northampton and UK Rigging in Bolton.
What do I need to know prior to booking?
A one day assessment of existing competence, National Event Lifting Certificate (NELC) is not a training course, in the same way that NRC is not a training course. Those attending the assessment must have previous training and experience.
