For the twelfth year running, we were asked to supply the star-studded National Television Awards at London’s O2 Arena, 20th January 2016.
This year saw the live ceremony, hosted by Dermot O’Leary, celebrate its 21st anniversary supported by the cream of the TV crop out in force. The big winners of the National Television Awards 2016 included Eastenders for Serial Drama, Suranne Jones for Drama Performance, Shayne Ward for Best Newcomer and Ant & Dec for Best Presenter for a 15th year running.
Working with the show’s producers Indigo Television, Blackout’s project manager Chris Brain and his team took just 3 days to complete the full install. A 20 x 12m drape shaped to frame the top of main stage’s large golden arch was supplied and installed, behind which the main screen displayed the award nomination footage
Behind these layers, a 35 x 15m backdrop drape was installed helping to create an entire black canvas, making the vivid lighting displays and set props stand out further, avoiding the live audience’s attention being drawn to other set elements in the room. An additional 100m of Easibuild pipe & drape was installed to enclose the dressing rooms, quick change areas, OMG area and the VIP/aftershow areas.
Chris Brain commented: “It is a privilege to work on such a fantastic show and we are delighted to work with Indigo TV and the NTA’s for the twelfth year running. It is testament to the hard work of the whole Blackout team that we return year on year and we look forward to supporting the event in years to come.”
