Trailblazer Rigging Apprenticeships

Trailblazer Rigging Apprenticeships

What is a Trailblazer Apprenticeship?

Trailblazers are groups of employers who work together to create a set of apprenticeship standards specific to the skills and role requirements of an industry sector which didn’t previously exist, or that will replace existing apprenticeship learning requirements.

How is Blackout involved?

As part of the National Rigging Advisory Group, our expertise was called upon to help create and develop the syllabus of the apprenticeship since its conception. Blackout have led the development of the assessment plan and syllabus ensuring they have been designed to meet the needs of businesses, whilst building the apprentice’s knowledge. Facilitating which skills and behaviours; assessment methods, grading and end point requirements are vital to the programme prior to seeking approval from the NRAG.

Who will benefit?

The Live Event Rigging Apprenticeship is designed to nurture recruits beyond the National Rigging Certificate Level 2 (NRC). Ultimately the industry will flourish as projects involving apprentices will be rigged safely and to the highest standards. The gap in trainee numbers will also be met, easing the demand throughout the rigging industry.

What does it include?

The apprenticeship follows the format of ‘on the job’ learning, working through specific modules and bolstered by a week-long residential course once a year, in partnership with Solihull College. Over the duration of study students will create an e-portfolio to demonstrate their learnings, culminating in an assessed observation and spoken Viva assessment to obtain the Level 3 NVQ qualification. The syllabus comprises

  • General Health & Safety
  • Work Methods
  • Rigging Skills & Techniques
  • Working at Height
  • Team Working and Communication
  • National Rigging Certificate Level 2
  • Final Assessment of practical, work portfolio and spoken Viva
